Discover Lebano Bites

Tucked along Upper Wickham Lane in Welling, just a short walk from local shops and residential streets, Lebano Bites at 16 Upper Wickham Ln, Welling DA16 3HE brings the bold, fragrant flavours of Lebanese cuisine to this part of South East London. The first time I stepped inside, I was greeted by the warm scent of grilled meat, toasted flatbread, and spices that instantly transported me to the bustling food markets of Beirut. It’s casual, friendly, and refreshingly unpretentious-exactly the kind of neighbourhood spot you end up recommending to friends without hesitation.

The menu is where things get exciting. If you’re into mezze, you’ll appreciate the generous spreads of hummus, baba ghanoush, and tabbouleh. The hummus is silky and smooth, finished with good olive oil and a sprinkling of paprika. According to the Mediterranean diet research frequently cited by organisations like the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, dishes built around legumes, olive oil, and fresh vegetables contribute to heart health and balanced nutrition. You can actually taste that philosophy here. The tabbouleh is vibrant and herb-forward, with plenty of parsley and just the right amount of lemon, instead of being overwhelmed by bulgur.

I’ve visited a few times now, and one dish I keep coming back to is the mixed grill platter. The chicken shawarma is marinated overnight-one of the staff members explained that they use a blend of garlic, lemon juice, and Middle Eastern spices before slow-roasting the meat to lock in moisture. That method mirrors traditional Lebanese preparation techniques, where marination and charcoal grilling enhance both flavour and tenderness. The lamb kofta arrives lightly charred on the outside, juicy on the inside, and seasoned with cumin and fresh herbs. It’s served with fluffy rice and warm pita, and nothing feels rushed or reheated.

During one visit, I brought a colleague who’s particular about authentic Middle Eastern food. He grew up eating home-cooked Lebanese dishes and tends to spot shortcuts instantly. After trying the falafel wrap, he commented on the crisp texture and airy interior, noting that properly made falafel should be ground from soaked chickpeas rather than canned ones. The texture here proved they’re doing it right. It’s that kind of detail that separates average takeaway spots from places that genuinely care about culinary heritage.

The restaurant’s approach also reflects broader culinary standards often highlighted by the Lebanese Ministry of Tourism and culinary associations promoting Levantine gastronomy: fresh produce, balanced spices, and a focus on sharing plates. You’ll see families ordering large platters, spreading dishes across the table, and passing bread around. The atmosphere supports that communal dining style, with friendly staff guiding newcomers through the menu if needed.

Service is quick but not rushed. On a busy Friday evening, I noticed the team coordinating orders efficiently, double-checking takeaway bags, and making sure dine-in guests received freshly grilled items straight from the kitchen. That consistency builds trust. While no small independent restaurant can guarantee perfection every single time, my experiences and many local reviews reflect a steady standard in both food quality and hospitality.

In terms of value, portions are generous. A single wrap or platter easily satisfies one person, while the mixed mezze options are ideal for sharing. Compared to central London Lebanese restaurants, prices here feel accessible without sacrificing quality. If you’re exploring dining locations in Welling and looking for something beyond the usual fish and chips or standard kebab shop, this place stands out with authentic flavour and careful preparation.

Lebanese cuisine is known for balancing protein, vegetables, grains, and healthy fats in a single meal. That balance is evident here, from grilled meats paired with fresh salads to vegetarian plates packed with flavour. Whether you’re dropping in for a quick takeaway, planning a relaxed dinner with friends, or simply craving shawarma done properly, this Welling favourite delivers satisfying, honest food rooted in tradition.

  • Honestly the food was really delicious and flavourful. We ordered a mix of food and we were not disappointed. Very happy we gave this place a go. Their baby chicken was really nice and juicy. Lamb shank was great as well but just a little bit more flavour would have been best. The fresh lemon mint juice was just amazing. Chef was nice and helpful

  • Roed and his team looked after our party smoothly and efficiently, making us feel cared for and catered to. A proper family style feel to the starters with options to blend or go solo for your meal from the menu. Nothing is too much trouble and dessert was a highlight! We will be recommending to our other colleagues as we had a wonderful evening. Thank you for caring for us tonight.
